Beautifully-designed home reflects bygone age

For many people, a dream home must have the character and style that only age can bring to a property.
The distinctive architectural features which predominated in centuries past are keenly sought by those wanting a house that is set aside from the rest.
It may be what we regard as an old house. Or it may be one that is truly a historic house, firmly embedded in that area’s past.
So it is with No 1 Church Street, Crowle, a beautifully designed home now designated a Grade Two listed building which reflects all that is admired about the architects of centuries past. It is offered for sale at Pounds 295,000 by Bell Watson, of Brigg.
It was in about 1730 that this impressively fronted home was built by the Earl of Manvers for his own occupation. It is said that from its top floor he could enjoy a clear view across to Worksop where he owned a colliery.
His family lived in the house for about 100 years before it was sold to a local family.
The present owner is Mr Tim Pidd, who has researched the building’s history and says that at one point the house changed hands having been won in a game of cards!
During the Second World War it was used as a barracks and subsequently fell into disrepair until bought by a local builder in 1961 and renovated.
Later years saw it owned by Mr Pidd’s parents.
So then, this is a home with a history and the building reflects the fact perfectly.
Walk in through its original doorway (one of the reasons why it is now a listed building) and you enter a bygone age of gracious living.
The hallway is impressively huge – at 31ft by 9ft, as big as many modern living rooms. With oak effect laminate flooring and a double dog-legged staircase it reflects perfectly the age in which it was created.
The lounge (15ft 1in by 14ft 11in) faces Church Street and has windows to the front and side, giving lots of natural light to a room which features an Adam-style fireplace and, like the rest of the house original cornicing
